Lloyd Banks - On Fire
I'm not sure if this is Eminem-produced or not, but if it is, its by a couple miles one of the best songs he's done. This funky little organ riff pops around in the background and anthemic-ass horns blaze through the track. A banger fo sho. Lloyd Banks is prolly my favorite G-Unit member if only for "I can make a 40 year old feel like a young lady" from the last G-Unit single. And this is a promising single on its own. "Tear the roof off this mufucka. Light the roof on fire." Dude looks like Craig David, interestingly.

It goes 1, 2, 3....

Young Gunz - Friday Night

Just Blaze produced a fucking BANGER with this one. So the "Superrappin'" homage is a little obvious...who cares. The drums are like this thunderous cowbell-rockin' shuffle. The verses are pretty hot, but its all about the drums and the chant-along chorus, really. Uhn, uhn, uhn, yeah, it was a friday night and the bass was pumpin', the honeys was rockin', the parties was jumpin', it wasn't long for everybody knew JUST BLAAAAZE was on the beatbox...." Harlem shake to this shit.

R Kelly - Happy People
Basically, this is the third version of a song Kelly's released twice already; happily, it's the best of the three. "Step in the Name of Love" and the "Step in the Name of Love (Remix)" were smoother than smooth R&B party jams, and "Happy People" is in the same vein. But this song has some horns, a catchier melody, and best of all, a percussion-only breakdown exactly three minutes into it. "Uhn, uhn uhn. All right. Uh huh. Now if you wanna step...you gotta play by the rules." Smooooove.

Twista - Overnight Celebrity
This is the best song on Twista's new album, hands down. Perfect Kanye production, clever AND decipherable verses from Twista. The piano loop keeps me hooked, and the shuffle beat (with handclaps!) keeps my head noddin'. Chicago represent.

Scissor Sisters - S/T

This album didn't strike me as worth checking out at first because after hearing the incredibly catchy "Take Your Mama Out," I assumed a lot about this band that was absolutely wrong. "Take Your Mama" sounds like some early Elton John track, on the catchy piano-driven pop song tip, but that is the tip of the iceberg. I heard the remix of Bucci Bag's "More Lemonade" the other day (link below) and was confused; I thought this was an Annoying Retread "Garage" Hipster band (ARGH!) but I couldn't be further from the truth. The remix is some crazy electro-dance with wonderful falsetto vocals. As a result, I decided to investigate their music further - the unbelieveable disco cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" has since cinched the deal. This album is gonna enter in my top ten somewhere, I imagine.

I mean, how can you front on a song called "Tits on the Radio"?

Albums

Pantha Du Prince's album Diamond Daze is pretty cool, especially the track "Eisregen." On the tech-house tip.

DJ Spooky's Riddim Clash, despite having a cool-sounding title, is actually quite boring.

Singles

Bucci Bag's "More Lemonade (Scissor Sisters Mix)" is quite good despite lyrics that suggest some sort of Urine fetish. You can download it for free at Fluxblog.

Felix Da Housecat's "What She Wants" feature the DFA is pretty good, although like most DFA tracks I find it hard to gather much passion for it. Find it, once again, at Fluxblog.
