I haven't updated this in awhile so here are new things I dig:
1. MF Grimm/MF Doom -
Special Herbs and Spices
Its all the Doom beats you've heard before, and Grimm rapping over them. Its a little disappointing bcuz some of Grimm's performances are dull/uninteresting, but when he clicks with the track it's always an intense moment. I'm reviewing it in Stylus and it should be up soon.
2. Ce'Cile - "Hot Like We"
This is one of the best versions of the Red Alert riddim I've heard yet, and that's sayin something. I like Ce'Cile a lot, and she knows how to take advantage of a hot track.
3. Other dancehall thoughts this year
Remember how I predicted Nina Sky would be all over the pop charts? I was dead-on eh? That Kevin Lyttle song is pretty cool too. As far as riddims: 2004: Blackout :: 2003 : Coolie :: 2002 : Diwali. From what I can tell.
4. Ciara, Petey Pablo and Lil Jon
I forget what this single is called but its absolutely terrific. Lil Jon is killin' em - I highly recommend everyone check out the interview he did in Scratch magazine, as it talks about the origins of his sound etc.
5. Lucien-N-Luciano -
Blind Behaviour
I think this might be my favorite microhouse album of the year, and the track "Madre, Mother & Mere" is one of my favorite songs easily. Highly recommended.
More soon....
